About VN & ANZ Capital

A fortnightly read on the deals between Vietnam and Australia, equity research on ASX-listed companies worth watching, and hypothetical M&A pitches I think are worth exploring.

About the author

I’m Duy, a second-year finance and economics honours student at UQ. Born in Vietnam, raised in Rockhampton, now based in Brisbane. I didn’t come into uni planning to do finance. To be honest, when I started, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do at all. It only clicked for me at the end of last year, watching how much the people around me in this industry had given up just to earn their seat. That was what pulled me in. Not because it looked glamorous, but because it felt real. The work doesn’t lie. What you’re willing to sacrifice today is what you get to become tomorrow.

Since then, I’ve had more help than I deserve. Mentors who didn’t owe me a minute gave me hours. People further along than me picked up the phone, answered the stupid questions, and told me kindly when I was wrong. I owe them. The only way I know to pay that back is to keep passing it forward. That’s really what this is. I’m not chasing a big audience. I’m just trying to give something back to the community. If one piece helps one reader understand a deal a little better, or pushes a kid from a regional town to believe finance is for them too, that’s a win. If this publication proves anything, I hope it shows that where you start doesn’t decide where you land. It just means a longer run-up.

I’m still a student. I’ll get things wrong. When I do, I’ll say so and fix it. If the analysis here is worth your time, I’d love to hear what I got wrong or missed. And to anyone further along than me, if you're ever up for a coffee, I'd love to hear about your journey and advice :)
